Nicaragua: Not One Inch Back

All part of the imperialistic counteroffensive to tear down progressive governments and establish a neoliberalism only in favor of the national oligarchy and foreign transnational.

Nicaragua begins its fourth month of turmoil triggered by elements who blindly follow the so-called plan of soft coup d’état, not so soft. Such practice has been successfully used in Ukraine and has been trying to destabilize Venezuela, where the Empire and acolytes continue an economic war that it has been unable to prevent the continuous social progresses.

All part of the imperialistic counteroffensive to tear down progressive governments and establish a neoliberalism only in favor of the national oligarchy and foreign transnational.

Around these days have had positive repercussions the massive rallies for peace throughout the entire country. Among participants appear those opposed to the violence and vandalism fed by millionaire amounts of money.

Nearly 200 casualties and great havoc is the balance of that situation, born from the understandable upset caused by an officially approved measure, which was immediately eliminated by President Daniel Ortega.

Let’s not forget that Ortega has been president for 12 years due to continuous reelections where he has won the popular approval. This continued reelection has been verified by international observers, including the pro-imperialistic Organization of American States (OAS).

The complex panorama of Nicaragua crisis is manipulated by the media, the politicians as well as right-wing governments that desire the defeat of the Sandinista government. In that conspiracy, clarifies Correo Magazine, the government of the United States plays a key role.

SINCE YESTERDAY UNTIL TODAY

Although the campaign against the Sandinista government is driven by several domestic and North American media, the beginning as such took place in Sweden, a nation famous for being neutral, something inaccurate, and followed by the rest of Scandinavian countries whose governments are also considered as human rights defenders, but this is not always like that.

Let’s not forget that until very recently, Nicaragua was an exemplary country amidst the violent region of Central America.

The crime rates were among the lowest in Latin America. The economic growth, between 4% and 5%, it was the second highest in the region after Panama. It was one of the Latin American countries with greater reduction of absolute and relative poverty, the only country in the region that produced the 90% of the food that consumed.

As for education, it was one of the few countries of Latin America and the entire Third World that produced all their text books at all levels, since primary school until University and Adults Education.

It had been able to brake the exodus to the United States, while dozens of thousands of Mexicans, Guatemalan, Honduran and Salvadorans attempt entering the United States by any means necessary. In the U.S. where is ever growing the number of crimes committed against immigrants on behalf of the “just” of the “law and order” and protectors of the “purity” of the white race.

THE TRUTH

For years the reactionary propaganda has attacked the Sandinista government for fostering models of agreements and alliances with the private sector, which had presented as accomplice of Sandinism to boost businesses. Now, overnight, the visible heads of national capitalism have joined the insurrectionists of the far-right.

In fact, neither in those visible heads of the business men who represent most of Nicaraguan capitalists, nor the capitalist private sector is the main economic engine of the country. Nicaragua’s economy rests basically in the popular sectors that produce more than 50% of the Gross Domestic Product and they generate more than 70% of employment in the country.

An important source of revenues for Nicaragua is family remittances that go directly to that sector of economy. There was a considerable redistribution of lands after the revolution of 1979 and the peace agreements of the 90’s. At present 80% of lands are owned by small and medium producers. In addition, since 2007, the Sandinista Government has given 100 000 ownerships in the country and the city, giving capital goods to sectors that don't follow a capitalist economic logic.

That economic base produces the 90% of all the food consumed in Nicaragua. Besides, entire sectors, like transportation and even most of tourism are controlled by cooperative and family businesses. The enterprising private sector was the one that least increased its investments during the Sandinista government. The State, the Direct Foreign Investment, as well as the sector of Popular Economy are the ones that contributed the most to investment in the country.

That is, enterprise leaders don't represent the true businessmen, most of which want to see a stable and thriving country. The managerial top is made of individuals linked to international finances, transnational companies or the managerial mafia of the organizations of businessmen.

Those groups don’t care at all that Nicaragua gets torn by a war; they have their cover funds and salaries from the multinationals they shield under. For example, Michael Healey, current spokesman for the insurgent Fascists, is a simple employee from a cane factory property of Colombian capitals. Also, José Adam Aguerri, president of the Superior Council of the Private Company, COSEP, doesn't own any other company besides COSEP. The Pellas family that during the Revolution of the 80’s declared the economic strike on the Sandinista Government and transferred all its money to tax haven, from which they started financial speculation, gained power and influence with the war that torn the country.

From the Hospital (private) Vivian Pellas are sent boxes of condoms and “following day pills” for the orgies that the middle class boys have together with the most dangerous racketeers in Managua at the Polytechnic University. Meanwhile, the Pellas Family that holds the monopoly on liquor in the country, live off the subsidy through which they force the Nicaraguan people to pay more than the world market price for sugar.

That subsidy, an outcome of rendition without fight of neoliberal governments, exemplifies the State model those sectors deem “democratic”. Lastly, the manager who first than anybody else dared to express in public his total support to the Fascist groups on Saturday, April 21 at the Polytechnic University UPOLI, Piero Coen, is the richest man in Nicaragua, head of the financial group Coen and seventh greatest capitalist of Central America, according to Forbes magazine.

To these individuals who want to destroy the Sandinista Revolution and give Nicaragua, whether in ruins or not, to the Empire, we can’t budge one inch back.

Cuba rejects expulsion of Russian diplomats from U.S., other nations

The Cuban government on Wednesday expressed concern about the expulsion of a "large group" of Russian diplomats by dozens of Western countries, saying it may "threaten international stability."

In a statement, the press and communication director of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Alejandro Gonzalez, said these unilateral measures taken by Washington and other NATO member countries "are not responsive to dialogue, understanding and cooperation that should prevail in international relations."

"Cuba believes that cooperation should prevail over confrontation and rejects the application of unilateral measures that undermine international stability," Gonzalez said.

He added that these actions were even without waiting for the result of an impartial investigation into the attack of Russian ex-spy Sergei Skripal.

Former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal, aged 66, and his daughter Yulia were found unconscious on a bench outside a shopping center in Britain's southwestern city of Salisbury on March 4.

Britain claims they were exposed to a nerve agent and holds Russia responsible, while the Russian government has denied any involvement in it.

Following the incident, Britain expelled 23 Russian diplomats, with Moscow expelling an equal number of British diplomats in response.

Earlier this week, the United States announced the expulsion of 60 Russian diplomats and intelligence officials, as well as the closure of the consulate in Seattle, a northwestern city of the United States.

Meanwhile, Canada, Australia and up to 16 countries of the European Union have expelled Russian citizens and diplomats from their territories.

UNICEF: More Than 530 Million Children Live in Crisis Scenarios

About 535 million children, one in four on the planet, live in countries affected by conflicts or disasters, the United Nations Children''s Fund (UNICEF) warned today.

In a statement, the UN agency said that minors frequently suffer from lack of protection, medical care, quality education and proper nutrition.

According to UNICEF, 393 million of these children live in sub-Saharan Africa, while 64 million subsist in the Middle East.

Syria, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Yemen, South Sudan and Haiti are among the countries where the greatest number of children suffer the consequences of wars and natural disasters.

Despite significant progress, too many minors continue to be affected by crises, poverty and discrimination on grounds of religion, gender, race, ethnicity and disability.

Executive director of the agency, Anthony Lake, drew attention to the fact that more than 500 million children suffer such an adverse situation, 'a figure that demonstrates the importance of our work.'

The economy of the United States is unable to emerge from the mud

After the most recent meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), realized in mid June, the President of the Federal Reserve (FED), Janet Yellen, announced that the reference interest rate would remain intact, that is, in the range between 0.25 and 0.50% [1]. With this, everything indicates that the FED will not raise the cost of interbank credit until a day before the proximate month of September.

With this, the propaganda of the Barack Obama government to convince us of the “full recovery” of the North American economy has lapsed into disbelief. It has been over six months since the FED raised the federal funds rate and to the moment there are no signs of an anticipated new increase.

In repeated occasions the FED has adjusted downwards it projections of economic growth: while in March it estimated an expansion rate for this year between 2.1 and 2.3%, recently this was reduced to a range between 1.9 and 2% [2]. The economy is in free fall. In December of 2015 the prognostic of growth of the FED for 2016 oscillated between 2.3 and 2.5% [3].

Without doubt the growing weakness of the strongest economy of the Group of Seven (G-7) has obliged monetary authorities to act with caution, since any false move will increase the risks of accentuating recessive tendencies, with high possibilities of deflation (a fall in prices) [4].

In the first quarter of the year the rate of expansion of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the US economy hardly reached 0.80%. The recovery of the labour market continued too fragile even though it was presumed to be the main achievement of the policies implemented by the FED. We recall that last December, when the FED raised by 25 points base the reference interest rate, the official unemployment rate was at 5%, a figure that according to some members of the FOMC, amounted to a situation of “full employment”.

Nevertheless, we know today that the central bank headed by Janet Yellen was mistaken. The recent data leave no place for suspicions: the winds of a new recession are threatening [5]. In the month of May non-agricultural employment added only 38 thousand jobs, the lowest increase since 2010. In addition, the data from March and April were revised downwards, employers contracted 59 thousand fewer persons than those originally reported [6].

Because of this no member of the FOMC emerged to celebrate that the unemployment rate would fall to 4.7% while, in parallel, the rate of labour participation fell to 62.6%: thousands of persons abandoned the search for work when faced with the lack of opportunities [7]. The official rate of unemployment masked massive unemployment, if one counted both the persons occupied in part time work as well as those who have recently abandoned the labour market, the figures are completely changed. There are alternative measures, the methodology U-6 if one considers these two areas, puts the unemployment rate at 9.7%, that is, over twice the official unemployment rate [8].

It must be pointed out that the lack of dynamism of the US economy is fundamentally the consequence of the extreme weakness of business investment, the product of a rate of capital profitability that is too low, or at least insufficient to establish new productive plants, capable of generating massive employment and with it, unleash a large process of recovery. It happens that US businessmen not only resist investing but also to raise wages, a situation that has failed to support a substantive increase in inflation: the index of consumer prices CPI, increased hardly 1.1% in annual terms over the past month.

The image of a buoyant economy appears increasingly further away since the Conference Board of the United States, the institution charged with supervising competition on a world scale, revealed that the US economy will this year undergo the first contraction of its level of productivity over the past three decades [9]. Faced with the lack of innovation, US productivity will fall by 0.2%. “Over the last year it appears that we were entering a crisis of productiveness, now we are in the midst of this”, according to Bart van Ark, chief economist of the prestigious centre of research.

In spite of everything, the traditional mass media insist in promoting the idea that the alert signs for the FED are localized outside of the United States. In a first moment they told us that the economic deceleration of China represented own odd the principal dangers for the world, more recently, they have advised us that the strong financial turbulence will come in the event that the United Kingdom decides to abandon the European Union (the so-called “Brexit”).

Very few have dared to investigate the high danger that the United States represents for the global economy: according to the estimations of the Deutsche Bank, the principal investment bank of the European continent, the probability that the American Union falls into recession during the next twelve months is already at 55% [10]. Everything indicates that sooner or later, the dramatic economic reality will end imposing itself in the face of the twisted information.

FARC-EP Deny Crisis in Peace Talks in Havana

The rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People''s Army (FARC-EP) denied today the suspension of peace talks that are being held in Havana since 2012 with the government of Juan Manuel Santos.

Colombia: Right-Wing Plan to Sabotage Peace Accord Condemned

During a press conference in Palacio de las Convenciones in Havana, the guerrilla spokesman Carlos Antonio Lozada confirmed that the talks were not interrupted as recently reported Colombian media.

These newspapers based their information on an alleged statement written by FARC-EP leader, Timoleon Jimenez, who expresses concern about the lack of progress on the issue of the concentration zones (where the FARC-EP will demobilize in the event of a peace deal).

It was an internal circular issued by the commander in chief of the FARC-EP regarding the situation arising from the presentation of a document by the government delegation, which practically rejects the progress achieved in this issue concerning the ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities, Lozada explained.

He also acknowledged that, given the situation, the discussions on that issue in the technical subcommittee have been affected, but never stopped.

He condemned that the government delegation has tried to impose their vision, and insisted that the agreements must have bilateral nature.

He also pointed out that it is not a question of negotiating an unconditional surrender of the insurgency, but to reach a consensus in a peace process.

The phoney « refugee crisis »

While the European media arouse emotion by showing photographs of a drowned child and reports of crowds of refugees crossing the Balkans on foot, Thierry Meyssan demonstrates that these images have been fabricated. It’s certain that they serve the purposes of the head of the Federation of German Industries, Ulrich Grillo, and also NATO. But they do not show the phenomenon in its totality, which leads the Europeans to offer inadapted responses.

A wave of brutal emotion suddenly submerged the populations of the NATO countries. People suddenly realised the drama of the refugees in the Mediterranean - a tragedy that has been going on for years to their complete indifference.

This change of attitude is due to the publication of a photograph showing a drowned child washed up on a Turkish beach. It doesn’t matter that this photo is staged - the sea washes up bodies parallel to the waves, never perpendicular. It doesn’t matter that in less than two days, it was instantly reproduced on the front pages of almost all the newspapers in the NATO zone You have already been advised that the Western Press is free and pluralist.

Continuing in the same vein, television channels multiplied reports on the exodus of thousands of Syrians who were crossing the Balkans on foot. Particular attention was given to the crossing of Hungary, which first of all built a completely pointless barbed-wire fence, then made a number of contradictory decisions which allowed the filming of crowds walking along the railway lines and mobbing their way onto trains.

« Reacting » to the emotion that they had provoked in their citizens, the « surprised and upset » European leaders struggled to find a way to bring help to these refugees. Antonio Guterres, ex-President of the Socialist International, and present UN High Commissioner for Refugees, invited himself to the debate, advocating « the obligatory participation of all the member states of the European Union. According to preliminary estimations, European countries will probably have to expand their relocation opportunities to 200,000 places », he declared.

What is the real problem, who is managing it, and what is their goal ?The Mediterranean refugees

Since the « Arab Spring », in 2011, the number of people attempting to cross the Mediterranean and enter the European Union has augmented considerably. It has more than doubled, and rose to 626,000 in 2014.

However, contrary to a common misconception, this is not a new and unmanageable wave. In 1992, when the Union numbered only 15 of its current 28 states, it received even more than that - 672,000 refugees for 380 million inhabitants. So there remains a considerable margin before the refugees begin to destabilise the European economy and its 508 million present inabitants.

More than two thirds of the migrants are men. According to their declarations, more than half of them are between 18 and 34 years old. So, generally speaking, this is not a family issue.

Contrary to the information presently being published by the media, less than a third of these are refugees from war zones : 20 % are Syrians, 7 % are Afghans, and 3 % are Iraqis.

The other two thirds do not come from countries at war – they are for the most part economic migrants.

In other words, the migration phenomenon is only marginally linked to the « Arab Spring » and war. These are poor people who leave their countries to try their luck in the rich countries, by virtue of the post-colonial order and globalisation. This phenomenon, after having slowed from 1992 to 2006, has started again, and is progessively growing. It only currently represents 0,12 % per year of the European population, and so – if correctly handled – should present no short-term danger for the European Union.

Do the migrants pose a problem ?

This flow of refugees is a worry for the European populations, but is warmly encouraged by German business leaders. In December 2014, the German « boss’s boss », Ulrich Grillo, hypocritically masking his interests behind a trickle of fine sentiment, declared to the DPA : « This counry has been open to immigration for a long time, and it must remain so ». « As a prosperous country, and also out of Christian love for our neighbours, our country should be able to welcome more refugees ». And again : «I want to be clear – I am in no way close to the neo-Nazis and racists who are meeting in Dresden and elsewhere ». More seriously : « Because of our demographic evolution, we are consolidating our growth and prosperity through immigration ».

This speech uses the same arguments as those used by the French business leaders in the 1970’s. Even more so today, the European populations are relatively well-educated and qualified, while the great majority of migrants are not, and can easily assume certain types of work. Progressively, the arrival of a non-qualified work-force who would accept conditions inferior to those of Europeans was causing tension on the job market. French bosses then began to push for family regrouping. The law of 1976, its interpretation by the Conseil d’État in 1977, and the jurisprudence by the European Court for Human Rights, deeply destabilised society. Since the adoption of the same dispositions, the same phenomenon can now be observed in Germany, with the inclusion, in 2007, of family regrouping in the immigration laws.

Contrary to a widely-held belief, the economic migrants do not cause an identity problem in Europe, but are missed in their home country. On the other hand, they are causing social problems in Germany, where the working class is already the victim of ferocious exploitation, because of the policies introduced notably by Ulrich Grillo. Everywhere else, it is not the economic migrants who are causing the problem, but the family regrouping.

Who is fabricating the current image of the « refugee crisis » ?

Since the beginning of the year, the passage from Turkey to Hungary, which used to cost 10,000 dollars, has dropped to 2,000 dollars per person. It’s true that certain human smugglers are slavers, but many of them are simply trying to make themselves useful to people in distress. In any case, who pays the difference ?

Furthermore, at the start of the war against Syria, Qatar printed and distributed false Syrian passports to jihadists from al-Qaïda so that they could convince Atlantist journalists that they were « rebels », and not foreign mercenaries. False Syrian passports are today distributed by certain smugglers to non-Syrian migrants. The migrants who accept them rightly believe that these false papers will facilitate their welcome in the Union. Indeed, since the member states of the European Union have closed their embassies in Syria - except for the Czech Republic and Romania – they have no way of checking the validity of these passports.

Six months ago, I was astonished by the blindness of the EU leaders, who failed to understand that the intention of the United States was to weaken their countries, including by means of the « refugee crisis » [2]. Last month, the magazine Info Direkt confirmed that, according to the Austrian Intelligence services, the passage of Syrian refugees to Europe was organised by the United States [3]. This charge still has to be verified, but already constitutes a solid hypothesis.

Moreover, all these events and manipulations would be without gravity if the member states of the EU would put an end to family reunification. In that case, the only real problem would not be the arrival of the migrants, but the fate of those who die on their journey across the Mediterranean. And that is the single reality that no European leader wants to consider.

What is NATO preparing ?

So far, NATO, or in other words the international armed branch of the United States, has not reacted. But according to its most recent missions, the Atlantic Alliance is reserving for itself the possibility of military intervention if the migrations should become important.

Since we know that only NATO is capable of publishing false information on the front page of all the newspapers of its member states, it is very probable that it has organised the present campaign. Besides which, the fact that all migrants are represented as refugees fleeing the war zones, and the insistance about the supposed Syrian origin of these migrants, allows us to suppose that NATO is preparing a public action linked to the war which it is secretly waging against Syria.

Greece and Creditors Reach Preliminary Deal Ahead of ECB Payment

In news from Greece, the government says it has reached a preliminary bailout deal with its international creditors ahead of a $3.5 billion payment to the European Central Bank on August 20th.

The deal in its current form includes a $95 billion bailout in exchange for harsh austerity measures and does not include any debt relief. The deal must be passed by the Greek Parliament, the German Parliament and that of other European nations.

The European Commission spokesperson spoke Tuesday, echoing caution from European officials who say the text of a final agreement has not yet been reached. European Commission spokesperson Annika Breidthardt said: "What we have at the moment is a technical-level agreement reached by the staff of the institutions and the Greek authorities on the ground following the weeks of negotiations."
