Seoul, Washington to Hold Dialogue on Inter-Korean Relations

South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have exchanged views today on the situation on the Korean peninsula and the recent high-level meetings in Panmunjom.

According to the South Korean Foreign Office, the two sides discussed by telephone the results of the cross-border talks, which ended with the agreement of an inter-Korean presidential summit next September in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Pompeo expressed his appreciation for Minister Kang's explanation and both agreed to cooperate closely in the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and the establishment of a lasting peace regime, the ministry said in a press release.

Seoul and Pyongyang have scheduled the September summit amidst growing speculation about a perceived stagnation in the negotiations.

South Korea supports Washington's position of maintaining all diplomatic and economic pressure on the DPRK until Pyongyang takes what they consider to be concrete steps towards complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization.

The North Korean foreign ministry referred to the suspension of nuclear testing and ballistic missile launches, as well as the elimination of the nuclear test site, as effective measures aimed at achieving mutual trust.

On the other hand, the United States has reiterated that it is too early to talk about an official statement on the end of the Korean War (1950-53), one of the main requests of the DPRK to move forward on the agreed issues.

Analysts consider that as part of the agenda of Presidents Moon Jae-in and Kim Jong-un in their third face-to-face meeting, it is to address the permanent peace treaty which will replace the armistice signed in 1953 and which keeps the Korean peninsula technically at war.

U.S.A. Believes it is Soon for Peace Treaty in Korean Peninsula

The United States reiterated today that it is too early to speak of an official declaration about the end of the Korean War (1950-53), despite the rapprochement between Washington, Seoul and Pyongyang.

According to the US ambassador to South Korea, Harry Harris, Seoul and the United States share the common goal of verified denuclearization and to achieve it depends on the hard work of diplomacy.

This position of the US diplomat supports Washington's position that insists on demanding concrete steps by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) towards denuclearization, before serious talks take place on the signing of a permanent peace treaty.

Recently, the DPRK criticized Washington's constant call to exert international pressure on Pyongyang and emphasized that the country has taken steps to enforce the agreements signed between US President Donald Trump and leader Kim Jong-un on June 12.

The North Korean foreign ministry mentioned the suspension of nuclear tests and launches of ballistic missiles, as well as the elimination of the nuclear test center, as effective measures that seek to create mutual trust.

As long as the United States follows that expired script, it will not be possible to see progress on the agreed issues, emphasized the Foreign Affairs Ministry of the DPRK.

United States: Arms Paradise

As Spanish news agency EFE reported on Sunday, the White House released this week its new policy on CAT (Conventional Arms Transfer).

The document main goal is to foster the sale of arms that the United States has been taking profit for years.

The statement of the Department of State substitutes that of former president Barack Obama in 2014.

Its three main goals are:

-         *Give top priority to strategic competence

-         *Create a proper environment to close the operations of arms selling

-         *Regroup the business model to increase the chances for success

But experts believe these goals are vague and refute, once again, the Trump’s administration of lack of transparency.

The law highlights “the increasing opportunity of business” and the “importance of strengthening the sale of arms in the world.”

One of the most appealing characteristics in Trump’s policy is set in his motto: “Make America Great Again.”

According to EFE, to do so, the CAT speeds up Washington’s arms transactions with potential customers abroad.

It does not mean that Congress is fully unaware of such military negotiations.

The U.S. government reported sales worth of 41,93 billion USD in 2017.

Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Egypt are the main buyers.

Cuba receives 2,5 Mln tourists in first half 2018

Cuba is on track to meet its target of drawing 5 million foreign visitors by the end of 2018, with 2.5 million international tourists arriving in the first half of the year, local media reported on Saturday.

The latest tourism figures were released during a cabinet meeting presided over by President Miguel Diaz-Canel, state daily Granma said.

Cuba's Tourism Ministry was lauded for its efforts to recover tourism flows in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma, which lashed northern Cuba in 2017.

The strongest storm ever recorded in the Atlantic, Irma caused damage to some resorts, but officials moved quickly to rebuild and renovate them since tourism is one of Cuba's leading economic engines.

In 2017, 4.7 million foreign visitors traveled to Cuba, an 11.6-percent increase from the year before.

Considered a strategic industry for the Caribbean island nation, tourism generates annual revenues of more than 2.5 billion U.S. dollars, the second-biggest foreign revenue-earning industry after exports.

The industry has contributed 10 percent of Cuba's national budget and provided half a million jobs.

Roger Noriega: With no Trade Value

Once again, Washington staged a comic sketch against Cuba. They got their hands on the discredit version of an alleged link between Havana and Venezuela with drug trafficking.

Miami-based America TeVe’s journalist Jose Nacher was ordered to do so.

His main source is an old ghost who still wanders the city at the service of the United States, Roger Noriega, former Assistant Secretary of state for Western Hemisphere affairs.

This man accused Cuban military authorities of being involved in the cocaine trafficking from Venezuela at a hearing organized before the U.S. Homeland Security’s Subcommittee.

He warned that last May an unidentified Venezuelan military man reported the U.S. Police Department that Cuban officials were involved in such illegal business, whose movement was originated in La Guaira’s Port.

According to Noriega, it seems that such Cuban officials ordered Venezuela’s Security not to meddle in “drug trafficking operations carried out by Colombian guerrilla men inside Venezuela.”

The aforementioned reporter added in his article that Noriega had confirmed that these illegal activities were linked to “Maduro’s family and regime,” something he could not prove, either.

Finally, he argued: “We must break off relations with the Havana regime.”

Likewise, “we should feel the support of the international community in order to impose financial sanctions against those criminals.”

Who is Roger Noriega?

Let’s see some examples:

-He is famous for his racist behavior. He looks down on the UN and hates Cuba. He is the loyal assistant of Rep. Senator Jesse Helms and always showed candid admiration for fascist Chilean general Augusto Pinochet.

-In 1998, he said to The Washington Post that most Chilean believes that Pinochet’s coup saved the country from a ruined anarchy.

-Promoter of the coup d'Étatin Venezuela in 2002 along with former President of Colombia and leader of its paramilitary forces Alvaro Uribe.

-In August 2003, he chose not to attend the inauguration of the Paraguayan president as he feared the resounding presence of Fidel Castro could cast a shadow on him.

Pence: Another Monroe Tour

The third Latin American tour of Mike Pence, the vice-president of the United States, is mainly aimed at ending the constitutional government of Venezuela. It’s no secret. North American official spokesmen have reiterated that one of the purposes of the journey is to strengthen Caracas isolation and we already know how to translate that. By the way, President Nicolás Maduro has been elected by a higher percent of votes that most leaders of the Lima Group, fragile imperialistic and anti-Venezuelan coalition. Another goal of the trip is the intent of appeasing spirits in the region before the cruel separation of migrant children from their parents, and, in general, zero tolerance politics, internationally rejected. What explains his gathering with the presidents from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, countries that have been more affected by this measure.

Besides the topic, Trump’s courier has traveled to something else than supervise and strengthen the conspiracy against the homeland of Bolívar. It’s no coincidence that his first visit was to the coup-installed government of Brazil. There is the greatest interest of Washington in keeping Lula in jail to prevent him at all cost to win the presidency next year. Let’s imagine the setback that would mean for the empire a new government of Lula in Brazil next year, next to the imminent election of Andrés Manuel López Obrador in Mexico, two geo-economic and geopolitical giants that with popular governments can tip the scale of power in Latin America and the Caribbean towards the interests of the peoples.

That outcome would be a true nightmare for Washington after the huge effort to destroy in different ways the progressive and revolutionary governments of the region. Either through coup-d’état against presidents Manuel Zelaya (Honduras), Fernando Lugo (Paraguay) and Dilma Rousseff (Brazil).

In addition to the failed attempts of overthrowing Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela where after so many failures, the South Command and the CIA experiment the "continuous" coup, threshold for the military invasion with which President Donald Trump has threatened. Likewise, the failed coups and permanent subversion against the Presidents Evo Morales and Rafael Correa (until he finished his office). Without forgetting the harsh media campaign and subversive attempts against Cristina Fernández de Kirchner that hindered greatly her time in office. The package, of course, includes the strengthening of the blockade and the subversion against Cuba.

On top of that the disintegration of neoliberal regimes, as it’s tangible the huge unpopularity of Temer and the growing distaste for Macri, or the historical advance of the left-wing in Colombia with Gustavo Petro. That on top of the growing resistance in those countries and, in general, our America, against the spoil, criminalization of the social protest and the environmental degradation caused by neoliberalism.

It’s easy to understand why Pence heads for his third conspiracy tour, besides the ones made by other government officials, like the former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson who admitted the devotion of Trump’s administration for the expansionary Doctrine Monroe. It should also be highlighted the feverish coup and interventionist activity against Venezuela on behalf of the Cuban-American law-makers, especially Marco Rubio, a some sort of anti-Latin American champion of Trump. Likewise, the fourth generation war tactics they set up in Nicaragua for years, he and other legislators of the same mafia. The well-known law as Nica Act, to deprive from credits Sandino’s homeland, is mainly a job of the law-maker born in Miami of Cuban origin Ileana Ross-Lehtinen.

All in all, the trip of vice-president Pence confirms the stanch will of Washington of eliminating the current and future popular governments in our region. A lot more now that the Yankee hegemony cracks under the emergency of China and Russia and their successful efforts to create a large area of Asian cooperation and unify the countries opposed to hegemony and war.

In our America the struggle for the democracy, the independence and the social justice continues, although we suffer setbacks, and the events we are witnessing indicate that victory will be of our peoples. Get into your head Mr. Pence.

Without Evidence, US Insists on Branding Incidents in Cuba as Attacks

The United States once again used the term attacks to describe alleged health incidents of US diplomats on the island, although without presenting evidence with scientific support to validate this accusation.

Yesterday, both countries held in Washington the fourth meeting dedicated to addressing issues of enforcement and compliance with the law, meeting in which the Cuban delegation urged the hostess to desist from the continued political manipulation of the issue of US officials.

According to the State Department press release on yesterday's meeting, the parties 'also discussed the health attacks against diplomatic personnel of the US embassy in Havana, including two recent cases.'

'The US delegation reminded Cubans of their responsibility to protect officials from harm,' it continued, in a language that is far from the spirit of a bilateral mechanism created to coordinate the fight against illicit crimes of concern to the world community, such as drug and human trafficking.

According to the statement from the Cuban side, issued as a result of the meeting, the alleged health cases served the White House as a pretext for the adoption of new unilateral measures that affect the functioning of the respective embassies, in particular, the provision of consular services on which hundreds of thousands of people depend.

Donald Trump, since his arrival in the presidency, in January 2017, has escalated in the aggressive posture towards Cuba, without hiding his determination to dismantle the approach initiated by his predecessor, Barack Obama, which led to the reestablishment of relations, the reopening of the embassies and the signing of twenty agreements.
