Some people showed their concern after they knew the qualifying tournament for the American continent to the upcoming AIBA World Championship was scheduled amid the postseason of the World Series of Boxing (WSB).

It was legit since it is certainly a different sort of event. In the qualifying tournament, the number of rounds is three. Therefore, the physical shape should not be a problem for our team. But the tactics may be since you cannot wait until the third round to reverse the course of a fight.

However, the technical staff of the Tamers (Domadores) —headed by Rolando Acebal— has full faith in the athletes, as stated by the trainer in exclusive interview to CubaSi.

“We are going to fix the differences in the ruling. They are used to fight five rounds, and this tournament will serve to get ourselves ready to the finals of the WSB.”

Regarding this event, Cuba has reached the finals after coming from behind in the two previous clashes. Were you so confident?

It did not happen with Uzbekistan. But once we saw the roster of Colombia we were sure we can sweep them. I do not like to underestimate any rival. But we know our C-2 is strong so we were sure we could win.”

It was not only a sweep, but Cubans overpowered sometimes Colombians, like in the final two fights.

I must confess we ordered Larduet to finish his rival as soon as possible. The order to Julio Cesar La Cruz was different. But he felt great and wanted to make happy the fans at the Sports City Coliseum.”

What’s your view on the final?

The order is not decided yet. But it is said the final clash would be held in Kazakhstan. It would be great for us as the C-2 is now in much better condition than our C-1. In any case, we are still counting on our victory to become the first team to win three times the title.”
