Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez affirmed today at the UN General Assembly that any attempt to destroy the Cuban Revolution will fail, in response to US President Donald Trump''s decision to intensify the blockade against the island.

Rodríguez recalled in the general debate of the Assembly that Trump announced on June 16 a setback in bilateral relations, by deciding to strengthen the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for more than half a century.

'We reiterate today the denunciation of measures to tighten the blockade and reaffirm that any strategy that seeks to destroy the Revolution will fail,' he insisted.

In his speech, the diplomat warned that the position taken by the White House undermines the bases set two years ago to advance in a new relationship between the two countries, in which respect and equality prevail.

According to the Cuban foreign minister, the decisions of the current administration ignore the support of large U.S. sectors, including the majority of Cuban emigration, for the lifting of the blockade and the normalization of ties.

Rodríguez said in the General Assembly that Cuba and the United States can cooperate and coexist, by respecting differences and promoting everything that benefits both countries and peoples, but it should not be expected that the island will make concessions inherent to its sovereignty and independence.

He also expressed a strong condemnation of statements made three days ago by Trump in the Assembly, in which he delivered an aggressive speech against Cuba.

The diplomat described the words of the U.S. president as disrespectful, offensive, and interfering.
