Cuban newly-elected president Miguel Diaz-Canel confirmed today the confidence in the strength and wisdom of the people to overcome the challenges of the Revolution and the construction of socialism.

In his first speech to the country, in the final day of the constituent sessions of the 9th Legislature of the Cuban Parliament, the Head of State and Government asserted that for the continuity of the process started on January 1, 1959, Cuba also has the legacy of its historic leader Fidel Castro (1926-2016), and the ideas of Raul Castro.

Likewise, he highlighted the strength and loyalty of an army that is as a matter of fact the people in uniforms, and its relevance for the continuity of the revolution.

Diaz-Canel affirmed that the Revolution will continue its course, with the commitment of new generations of Cubans.

The president of the Councils of State and Ministers, who took over the post Thursday, highlighted in his inaugural speech the example of the struggle and teachings of Fidel and Raul Castro.

In the case of Raul, who has ended his term at the head of the State, he recalled important decisions he made to strengthen the revolutionary process and the foreign policy of Cuba.

In this regard, he mentioned the reestablishing of diplomatic relations with the United States, the promotion of the unity of Latin America and the Caribbean, pushing ahead peace negotiations for Colombia, the liberation of the five Cuban Heroes and support for Haitian and Puerto Rican peoples.
