From the next school year on, the Ministry of Education of Cuba (MINED) will start training professors (around 800) for Art Education. This report was confirmed by the head of the ministry Ena Elsa Velazquez Cobiella.

On this matter, the ministry meets its goal of improving the work quality in correspondence with today’s challenges and perspective in the country.

Ena Elsa Velazquez detailed that teacher training schools were re-opened in 2010 aiming for training mid-level professors to meet the needs in the kindergarten, elementary, and special levels. For the latter, the course of English was included.

Besides, the professors training for the senior high school and the professional and technical education level was added.

There are 26 schools of this kind in the nation — 24,116 students enrolled—. Two provinces have two schools and Havana has a total of three.

3,091 students from 12th grade were granted the education career: 1,648 of them got it via University College —when 12th grade students spend the whole school year in a Teacher Training University.

The Ministry has, until today, 225,216 teachers. 79% of them are women.
