Juan Guaido and the “timing” of a U.S. intervention in Venezuela

Juan Guaido, Venezuela’s president according to Washington, reaffirmed on Saturday he does not rule out the idea of authorizing a military intervention of the U.S. to force Maduro out.

The “self-proclaimed” president reiterated, word by word, the same song with which he, for one month and a half, has followed the instructions coming from Washington via Bolton, Pompeo, Abrams, Rubio and Trump, who have not stopped threatening the legitimate government of Venezuela: “Every option is on the table and we state it responsibly,” and he added he could appeal to article 187 of the Constitution, “when timing is right.”

Paragraph 11 of the article 187 empowers the National Assembly —in this case illegal and led by Guaido— “to authorize the use of foreign and Venezuelan military missions abroad in their soil”.

The statements made by the U.S. puppet came to light in the context of a massive blackout that affected Venezuela on Thursday and was labeled by President Maduro as the most serious attack to a power supply system in the history of Latin America.

The Bolivarian leader also stated that Venezuela has been target of a series of cyber, electromagnetic, and physical attacks since the power supply plant in Guri was sabotaged last Thursday. When the 70% of the power supply had been restored, another attack undid every progress achieved.

As denounced by Maduro, the cyberattacks perpetrated against Venezuela’s power supply were carried out by the United States and its right-winged allies who, in the last six years, have unleashed an “electric war” against the nation resulting in more than 200 deaths.

Over all these years, the electric war has been used as feedstock to fake news by international media against the current government of Venezuela. The South American nation is now portrayed as a failed state unable to guarantee the power supply in a country with the greatest oil reserves in the world.

Nonetheless, this electric war —which increases the hardships of an economic war undermining the resistance of the Venezuelan people— does not look like the last available card of those manipulating Guaido as allegedly acting president.

This is another chapter in the escalation of provocations designed by the current U.S. administration to bring about a change of government in Venezuela. Guaido’s self-proclamation, the entrance of the allegedly humanitarian aid through Cucuta, the continuous bribery and blackmailing to the Army, the return of Guaido after touring some Latin American countries, all of them failed. The electric war must fail as well but Washington announced the next provocation: “the capture of Caracas” by the opposition.

In last Saturday rally, Guaido confirmed he will tour Venezuela in the coming days. “And then I will announce the date we will march together to Caracas to seize power,” he added before chants of people asking him to taking the Presidential Palace Miraflores, headquarter of the Government.

Evidently, the empire will not stop pressing in its attempt to reach that “timing” Guaido was referring to. The goal is to create and propitiate a bloody clash between the opposition and law enforcement bodies to justify a foreign military intervention. No matter if blackouts affect all Venezuelans, including those belonging to the opposition, nor the ideology of those killed by the bombs.
