Cuban will attend the 2018 Pan-American Men's Handball Championship, to be held from June 16-24 in Greenland, event that will grant three tickets to next year World Championships.
Enrique Delisle, head coach of the Cuban team, told ACN that they intend to win a medal in that tournament, thus qualifying to the 2019 WC, which will be jointly hosted by Germany and Denmark from January 9 to 27.
For us it would be a great achievement to reach that goal, especially since we do not attend a WC since 2009, he said.
Cuba´s main rivals in Greenland will be Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Puerto Rico and Uruguay.
The Caribbean island was included in Group A along with Argentina, Chile, Puerto Rico, Guatemala and Peru.
Delisle considered that with the insertion of the Cuban players hired in foreign leagues, they are in a position to meet their goal.
Right now - he said - we have 10 athletes playing professionally in Spain, France and Portugal, and nine of them will represent us at the Pan-American Championship and the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia.
The Cuban coach added that in Barranquilla they will try to fight for the gold medal, thus improving the third place achieved in the previous edition of Veracruz 2014.
