The Peruvian capital will host the largest Paralympic sporting event in the continent, in which 33 countries and delegations will participate.

The opening of the Parapan Am Games will take place on August 23, 2019, at the National Stadium.

The Parapan American Games will host 1,890 para-athletes from 33 countries and delegations, who will participate in 17 para-sports and 18 disciplines. The competitions will take place between August 23 and September 1, 2019. These will take place 12 days after the end of the Pan American Games, which will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2019.

The ceremony took place in a festive atmosphere with the presence of para-athletes who dream of representing the country in the continental tournament. The president of Lima 2019, Carlos Neuhaus Tudela, the president of the National Paralympic Association of Peru, Lucha Villar; and the president of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, Pedro del Rosario all participated in the event as well.

In addition, the Ambassadors of Lima 2019, Pilar Jáuregui, Dunia Felices, Pedro Pablo de Vinatea, Efraín Sotacuro, Percy Rojas and Jorge Arriola all attended, as well as Ricardo Duarte of the Association of Olympic Athletes.

In this activity, Carlos Neuhaus, highlighted the advances in the works that are developed in the different venues of Lima 2019 and the accessibility benefits that the Games will leave. “Realizing the Parapan American Games is a bigger challenge, because we must make them accessible to everyone. We are advancing because this game is one we all are a part of, the Games of Peru. And I only ask the athletes to give everything they’ve got for the country, because we are working to give the best conditions to compete, “he said.

Meanwhile, Pedro del Rosario stressed the value of athletes to defend the country in all competitions. While the Ambassadors of Lima 2019, affirmed that “Lima 2019 is an opportunity to continue growing”. Efraín Sotacuro said he was excited to know how the works are progressing.

After the ceremony, a series of exhibitions of Para sports that will be part of Lima 2019, such as Wheelchair Basketball, Golbol, Footbol 5, Seated Volleyball and Taekwondo took place. Where the authorities, Ambassadors and the people who arrived at the Videna Sports Center 1, were able to enjoy this experience of being part of the Peruvian teams.
