Cuban, Dominican players present in Japanese baseball league final

Players from Cuba and the Dominican Republic are heading the list of Latin American baseball players set to play in the final rounds of Japan's Pacific and Central Baseball Leagues.

Cuban players Alfredo Despaigne, Yurisbel Gracial and Livan Moinelo qualified for the finals of the Pacific League, after the victory of the SoftBank Hawks over the Rakuten Eagles with a score of 2-1 in the final playoff game (a match of three games).

In the game held in this city, Despaigne made a hit in two official chances at bat, received a base and scored a homerun to finish the series with a batting average of .500, a home run and three teammates brought to the home plate (runs batted in).

Gracial closed the game with 1 hit and 2 stikeouts, for an average of .300, while relief pitcher Moinelo pitched one single inning, did not allow any hitter to bat and left his earned run average effectiveness at 0.00 and four strikeouts in the three games.

The SoftBank Hawks, reining champions of the competition, will face the Seibu Lions in the final stage of the Pacific League, which will determine the representative of that circuit in the Japanese final series.

In the Central League, the Hanshin Tigers defeated the Dena Stars 2-1, at the Yokohama Stadium, to win the series and formalize a game against the Yomiuri Giants.

Dominican Rafael Dolis scored his second victory of the series, after not allowing hits and striking out a pair of opponents in two thirds of relief, while his co-national and teammate Jefry Marte finishing 5-1 and with a total average of .250.

The Central League also includes Cubans Onelki Garcia (pitcher of the Hanshin Tigers) and Alexander Guerrero (Yomiuri), both with outstanding performances in the current season.

The final games will begin next Wednesday in the Tokyo Dome (Central League) and the MetLife Dome of Tokorozawa (Pacific League).

Intense Sunday within the Cuban baseball championship

A long day will be lived this Sunday within the 59th Cuban National Baseball Championship, after the suspensions of several meetings this Friday at the beginning of the last particular series.

The rain suspended and sealed most of the duels and the date only saw the end of the matches between Cienfuegos and Villa Clara, in the Augusto César Sandino stadium, and Holguin against Guantanamo, in the NGuyen Van Troi.

The 'Elephants' (27-16) follow the wind and all sail in search of its direct classification to the next phase and beat 4-1 the already eliminated submonarch of the lid, Villa Clara (16-25), which as local could do little to the push of their opponents.

Likewise, in a minor game, Noelvis Gonzalez's 'Cubs' (18-24) continued their positive streak after sweeping Santiago de Cuba (26-15), and defeated the 'Indios' guantanameros (9-34) 5-3, bottom of the standings.

The rest of the calendar was postponed and this Sunday will be a day of double matches, if the weather conditions allow it.

Thus, leader Camagüey (27-14) will host Sancti Spíritus (24-17), sixth in the ranking, at the Candido Gonzalez stadium, home of the competition's Game of the Stars, to be held from 18 to 20 of the current month.

Matanzas (26-15), second place, will visit the aforementioned Santiago de Cuba, fourth seat, while Granma (23-18, seventh), a serious aspirant for wild tickets, will host the eliminated Ciego de Ávila in his home Martyrs of Barbados.

Industriales (22-18, eighth) and Isla de la Juventud (21-21, tenth) will define their fate versus Artemisa (14-27, fifteenth) and Pinar del Rio (21-21, ninth), respectively, always at home of the seconds, and the current champion of the lid, Las Tunas (23-16, fifth), will fight in front of his audience to sweep Mayabeque (15-27, penultimate), one of the most unstable payrolls of the campaign.

Cuban Moinello continues shining as setupper in the Japanese Professional Baseball

Cuban pitcher Livan Moinelo had a perfect performance for the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks and became the fourth Latin reliever with 60 appearances in the Japanese Professional Baseball (NPB) regular season.

The lefty reliever pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, with three strikeouts, in the 1-5 loss of his side to the Buffaloes Orix in the final match of the regular season.

Moinelo closed his performance in the preliminary stage with terrific ERA of 1.52, and finished third among the best setuppers of the Pacific League with balance of 3 wins, 1 loss and 4 saves; while his compatriots and teammates DH Alfredo Despaigne and LF Yurisbel Gracial did not batted hits, thus decreasing their batting averages to .259 and .319, respectively.

The Hawks, current NPB champions, finished second in the Pacific League (PL), two games behind the Saitama Seibu Lions and 5 matches ahead of the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles.

Meanwhile, the Central League (CL) was topped by the Yomiuri Giants, followed by the Yokohama DeNA BayStars and the Hanshin Tigers, in that order.

The 2019 NPB postseason will begin on October 5 on both circuits, with the matches Hawks vs. Eagles (PL) and BayStars vs. Tigers (CL) in the first stage of the Climax Series.

The winner of each confrontation, to the best-of-three, will then face (October 9-14) each league leader, teams that will begin the decisive second phase with a win ahead according to the NPB regulations.

The Japan Series (October 19-27), between the champions of each league, will start on Pacific soil, as the current NPB king (Hawks) plays in this circuit.
