Red Alert Declared in Colombia Due to Rains

At least seven departments of Colombia have been declared in an emergency due to the rains.

The Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideam) declared a red alert on Sunday in seven Colombian departments due to heavy rains.

The departments in red alert are Cundinamarca, Santander, Vichada, Vaupés, Guainía, Meta and Bucaramanga.

The department of Bucaramanga forecasts river rises in the tributaries to the count of Lebrija, Fonce, Carare and Suárez.
 
In Vichada, more than 6,000 people have been affected by the rains in the municipalities of Primavera, Cumaribo, Santa Rosalía and Puerto Carreño. According to emergency agencies, water levels exceeded 15 meters above the basin of the Meta and Orinoco rivers.

Also, in Santander, heavy rains caused the death of a minor after the fall of a wall, while 20 people were injured and more than 100 families affected.

In Guainía the authorities showed a first report that shows that some 16,000 people have been affected by the rains and about 50 percent are affected.
