The United Nations Children''s Fund (UNICEF) today supports the promotion of good hygiene practices in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to prevent the spread of the most recent Ebola outbreak.

UNICEF is transferring an aid shipment to that country, in addition to mobilizing its staff to teach hygiene measures, which should be stretched now, said the UN news site.

The humanitarian shipment includes 92 tons of medical and sanitation material, such as tablets to purify water, chlorine, tanks and hygiene kits.

To date, 57 cases of Ebola have been reported in the DRC and there are 41 people who have died.

According to the latest reports, in the province of North Kivu the number of patients continues to increase and access is very difficult for humanitarian workers due to the security conditions in the area.

The day before, humanitarian partners from the UN and the World Health Organization (WHO) asked the parties to the conflict for free and secure access to fight Ebola.

The Congolese army is facing the rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces, which makes it difficult for health workers to reach sick people, warned the body.

New Ebola alert in the Congo DRC was raised on July 25, after a woman and several members of her family died after showing symptoms compatible with the disease.
