Resistance in malaria parasites will focus debates at the International Antimicrobial Resistance Conference, from the laboratory to the clinic, in the presence of delegates from about 15 countries.

According to the program, delegates from Russia, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Panama, Peru, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Chile, Bolivia, Mexico, Colombia and the host nation will discuss about the antimicrobial susceptibility test and clinical interruption points.

They will also reflect on antimicrobial resistance in the community, as well as antifungal medications, antimicrobial treatment for bacteria that are invulnerable to multiple drugs and antimicrobial administration as a tool to fight intransigence.

Wednesday's session was a favorable framework to learn the panorama of antimicrobial resistance in Cuba and the Americas, as well as the situation in the European continent.

The event, sponsored by the Cuban Society of Microbiology and Parasitology, was jointly organized with the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID).

The Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology (SEIMEC), The Lancet Infectious Diseases and the Pan American Association of Infectious Diseases (API), are also on the list.

The top representatives of ESCMID, SEIMEC and API expressed their desire that the event strengthens ties of collaboration with the island's Society to face antibiotic resistance that puts the health of the human being at stake.
