Rome, Jun 8 ( Prensa Latina) The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has reported in Rome Saturday the launch next week of a new report on the state of the art of digital technologies in the agricultural sector and rural areas.

The report will be presented during a seminar on the subject to be held by FAO at its headquarters in Rome on June 12 and 13, a document defined as essential to enhance agriculture through digitization in rural areas, in terms of digital inclusion, employment and education, data, cybersecurity and other related issues.

The event will be opened by Jose Graziano da Silva, Director General of the UN Specialized Agency, and will be attended by senior officials from the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the World Bank and the European Commission.

Representatives from China, the United States, India, Japan, Kenya, Switzerland and delegations from the private sector and civil society will also participate.

Agriculture is transforming thanks to digital technologies which offer ubiquity, portability and mobility anywhere and anytime through smart phones, the Internet of things, cloud-based services, intelligent technology and prediction (analysis and artificial intelligence), as well as interconnected systems based on data, detailed FAO when arguing the thematic characteristics of the meeting.
