The Legislative Council of Portuguesa on Saturday approved a resolution condemning the United States economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba.

After the legislators' pronouncements and presentation of the consequences the blockade has had for the Cuban people during more than 60 years under the White House coercive measures, the Council officially approved Resolution 013-2019 in support of the Caribbean nation.

'We reject the US-imposed criminal blockade of Cuba and its noble people, who have suffered the consequences of US interference for more than 60 years, and we demand that the US Congress end that policy,' the text said.

The document noted that this agreement takes into consideration that a resolution against the US blockade of Cuba will be soon submitted to the United Nations General Assembly, and Venezuela will once again support the island-nation.

It also recalled that Washington 'has ignored with arrogance and contempt all 27 resolutions adopted by that body, as they are contrary to the principles of international law and violate human rights.'

During the session, several lawmakers exposed the consequences of these punitive measures for the Cuban people and pointed out that they are the same as those currently implemented against Venezuela to destabilize the country and make it surrender due to starvation.

They expressed their unconditional support for Cuba and recalled the historic ties of brotherhood between the two countries and the help provided by Cuba to the social missions developed by the Bolivarian Government.
