Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro recalled today the visit paid 139 years ago by Cuban National Hero Jose Marti (1853-1895) to this city in order to strengthen ties between both peoples.

'Our Caracas welcomed Our America's Hero Jose Marti 139 years ago, who, filled with love, went to pay tribute to Libertador Simon Bolivar. It is an honor for us today to celebrate this date, which reminds us of the beginning of Cuba-Venezuela brotherhood,' the president posted on Twitter.

During his stay in this city, Marti contacted several intellectuals of that time, delivered speeches at the Commmerce Club, and taught oratory.

With the purpose of paying tribute to the Cuban Hero and keeping his legacy alive, Venezuelans are carrying out activities, started yesterday with the inauguration of a children's exhibition, inspired by Edad de Oro (The Golden Age) magazine.

On Tuesday, Venezuelan authorities and Cuban diplomats laid a floral wreath at Plaza Bolivar. In addition, Marti's route will be followed on January 26, from La Guaira port to this square, to reproduce his route upon arrival in Venezuela for the first time.
