Their plane, a twin-engine Cessna 303, crashed on Saturday while flying from the provincial capital of Quibdo to Nuqui, a tourist spot located on the Pacific coast, according to a statement by the Air Force.

Since the plane disappeared, the air force sent an airplane for search and rescue operations over the region where the plane was suspected to have crashed.

During the operation, rescue teams located the airplane and the pilot Captain Carlos Mario Ceballos’ body.

They continued searching for three other passengers: the woman identified as Maria Nelly Murillo, her one-year-old baby and another boy about whom details have not been provided.

The two survivors were found after five days in Choco’s jungles, one of the wettest parts of the planet, and having a strong presence of guerrilla groups like the National Liberation Army (ELN) and Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

The woman had several injuries and minor burns while the baby was virtually unhurt.

The mother and her baby were taken to Quibdo’s medical facilities by the authorities for health checks.
