Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Delcy Rodríguez, informed via Twitter on Sunday evening that there was no evidence of any violation of Colombian airspace.

She highlighted that Bogotá sought to fabricate incidents in order to hamper the presidential meeting soon to be scheduled between Nicolás Maduro and Juan Manuel Santos.

Rodríguez added that President Maduro instructed her to "denounce any attempts by the government of Colombia to hamper the efforts" of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) to foster talks between the presidents of Colombia and Venezuela.

Earlier on Sunday, President Santos had informed he would present a formal protest to Venezuela for what he described as "a violation of our airspace."

On Sunday morning, the Colombian Ministry of Defense reported in a communiqué that two alleged Venezuelan military planes crossed several kilometers into Colombian airspace on Saturday.

"In the afternoon of Saturday, September 12, 2015, the aerial defense system of the Colombian Air Force detected the entry into Colombian territory of two Venezuelan military aircraft in the Alta Guajira zone," the communiqué noted.

"The planes entered 2.9 km into the Colombian airspace, flying over the Majayura area," the communiqué added.
