Many said they would vote for Clinton or Trump out of fear for the other winning.

The majority of voters said they are scared of both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump being elected U.S. president, according to a new poll released Thursday, highlighting a choice for one of the major candidates as the lesser of two evils.

The Associated Press-GfK poll saw that a staggering 81 percent of those surveyed said they would be afraid if either Clinton or Trump became president in November.

A potential Trump presidency was seen to be scarier than that of Clinton; 33 percent said they would be afraid if Trump was elected and 25 percent said they would be afraid of Clinton.

A massive 75 percent of the respondents said the major reason they would vote for one of the major candidates was because “I oppose the other candidate,” with 63 percent saying they would vote for Clinton or Trump because they have “the best positions on issues,” with 14 percent of Clinton and Trump supporters even saying that they would be voting for a candidate that they did not like.

The poll also revealed that 58 percent said that their chosen candidate was the most qualified for the job, with 55 percent saying that they were the strongest leader in the presidential race.

Even 14 percent of Trump supporters considered the business mogul somewhat racist.

A number of respondents stated that they would consider leaving the U.S. if their rival candidate was elected as president.

The negative results of Thursday’s poll come after last week a poll run by Public Policy Polling, or PPP, revealed that 13 percent of those surveyed would choose a hypothetical giant meteor hitting earth than have Clinton or Trump win the presidency.
