Brasilia, Sep 22 (Prensa Latina) The main Brazilian unions today called for a national mobilization in defense of the rights of workers, in jeopardy due to the announced reforms ''by the coup government'' of Michel Temer.

One more time, sectors of the government, business and banks intend to place on the backs of the working class and the poorer the costs of the economic crisis, as it was evidenced by the proposals for reform of social security, and the anticipated labor legislation and fiscal adjustment, the organizations declared in their appeal.

This day will also serve as a way to discuss at a base level a general strike, said the Central Unica dos Trabalhadores (CUT), Força Sindical, the General Union of Workers (UGT), the New Central Trade Union of the workers (NCST), the Intersindical and Central Workers Organization of Brazil (CTTB).

The call to strike also stresses that workers will not accept losing historical rights conquered with struggle and sacrifice, and notes that 'the rentier logic does not address the needs of Brazil'.

On the contrary -it highlights- it deepens poverty and unemployment, decreases wages and eliminates rights.

We advocate a national development project focused on resuming economic growth, job creation and distribution of profits, we want decent work, decent retirement and reduced working hours without reducing wages, it declares.

The call to action also urges the popular movements in general and other sectors, as intellectuals and artists, to join the protest because 'we need to stop Brazil to give a demonstration of the limits that the people imposes to that illegitimate and putschist government'.

In a statement issued yesterday, the CUT warned that at every moment the siege against democracy and the rule of law intensifies, 'as it was seen in the grotesque and dangerous show put on by prosecutors of the Lava Jato case, who with conviction but without evidence attempt to incriminate former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

With this procedure it is shown to the nation and the world the political, tendentious and partial use of the Brazilian Judiciary power, the document added, and stressed the repudiation of the organization against this operation, which seeks to criminalize not only the figure of Lula, but the Workers party and other left wing, popular and union forces.
