Aleppo Victories to 'Prelude' Defeat of Rebels in Syria: Assad

"But this victory is a prelude to the complete defeat (of the rebels and their backers) sooner or later," Assad said in his speech aired on the national TV.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said Monday that the recent victory of the Syrian army in the Aleppo province is a prelude to the major defeat of the rebels elsewhere.

In a televised speech following the major victory of the Syrian army in the western and northwestern countryside of Aleppo, Assad said it doesn't mean the end of the war, nor does it mean the elimination of terrorism.

"But this victory is a prelude to the complete defeat (of the rebels and their backers) sooner or later," Assad said in his speech aired on the national TV.

Assad, meanwhile, said the battle for retaking all areas in Aleppo and Idlib countryside in northern Syria is ongoing so is the battle to "liberate all Syrian soil, eliminate terrorism, and achieve stability."

Assad made the remarks as the Syrian army declared on Monday the capture of tens of villages and towns in the northwestern countryside of Aleppo, securing the provincial capital of Aleppo.

In a statement, the Syrian army said the military operation in western Aleppo was "precise and qualitative," adding that the operation is ongoing.

The Syrian army is still attacking the Aleppo countryside as we speak, with many units attempting to push towards the Turkish border.

Syrian Army Takes Control of Large Area East of Aleppo

Damascus, Feb 2 (Prensa Latina) The Syrian army and allied militias control more than 30 villages and several strategic heights in the eastern Aleppo countryside following fierce battles with members of the Islamic State, Daesh, for its acronym in Arabic, according to military sources.

Army troops advanced 16 kilometers and extended a front of up to 25 kilometers wide, which means an area of more than 250 kilometers in about 20 days of combat, the reports confirmed.

According to reports, dozens of kilometers of fortifications, tunnels and trenches along the front were destroyed, as well as four thousand explosive devices were neutralized after controlling Aleppo-Al Bab road.

This last city, of about 150 thousand inhabitants, is located 40 km northeast of Aleppo, and belongs to that province bordering Turkey, whose troops are located in the northern region after breaking into Syrian territory since August 2016.

Syria has repeatedly denounced the incursion and retention of Turkish troops in that area under the pretext of attacking the Daesh, whose troops even retreated from the city of Jarablus 'ceded' by Ankara regime to opposition groups of the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces.

Russia reduces military presence in Syria, Su-25 transfer to Khmeimim is planned rotation – MoD

The Russian Defense Ministry has said that it is continuing to scale down its military presence in Syria, with the recent transfer of four Su-25 aircraft to Khmeimim airbase part of a planned troop rotation.

In accordance with the order of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation is implementing measures to reduce Russia’s military presence in the Syrian Arab Republic,” Defense Ministry spokesman Major-General Igor Konashenkov said on Thursday.

He added that the Russian Navy’s aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, and its group, which numbers more than 40 naval aviation aircraft, will be the first to return from the Mediterranean Sea to their base in Severomorsk, where Russia’s Northern Fleet is permanent stationed.

“In addition, the first six Su-24 bombers have already been relocated from the Khmeimim airbase to the territory of the Russian Federation. The withdrawal of other aircraft, as well as pilots and technical staff from the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic is planned for the nearest future,” Konashenkov noted.

He also said that, in the meantime, four Russian Su-25 airplanes, which NATO calls Frogfoots, have been deployed at Khmeimim, explaining that the transfer is part of a planned troop rotation.

As part of the planned rotation of aircraft, four Russian Su-25 planes recently joined the Russian Air Group at the Khmeimim airbase,” he said. These aircraft are equipped with modern navigation and sighting systems, according to Konashenkov.

Fox News  on Wednesday that four Russian Su-25 jets have arrived at Khmeimim and, citing unnamed US military officials, was quick to claim that this meant Russia is not actually pulling out of Syria.
In refuting this supposition, Konashenkov called the Fox News report a “propaganda hoax.”

The attempts of some Western media to ‘forget’ some facts, so that, clinging to other ones they could shout about an alleged ‘increase in Russia's military presence in Syria,’ are nothing more than a primitive propaganda hoax,” the major general said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a partial pullout of military forces from Syria after negotiating a ceasefire deal with Iran and Turkey, saying the agreement offered an opportunity to end the six-year armed conflict in the war-torn state. At a meeting with Russian Defense Ministry leadership, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said on Tuesday that the Russian Air Force had met their primary objectives in Syria.

We have accomplished the main task that the supreme commander-in-chief had set for us last year.

“That task required us to apply all of our efforts and capabilities to dispatch a large group to Syria, including an aircraft carrier-led group and extra aerospace resources, as well as military police,” Shoigu explained.

Russian troops were deployed in Syria in September of 2015, when Russia launched an  at the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad. On December 30, 2016, a comprehensive ceasefire was announced following a truce reached between the Syrian government and opposition forces. Russia and Turkey are acting as the guarantors of that truce, which does not extend to Islamic State and Al-Nusra Front terrorists.

Mass Graves in Aleppo

Moscow, Dec 27 (Prensa Latina) The Russian Ministry of Defense denounced the finding of seven storehouses of ammunition and mass graves with dead bodies of Syrian citizens tortured and killed by terrorists in the city of Aleppo, that was recently freed by Syrian Army troops.

Inside those facilities, there were huge amounts of weapons, ammunition for several batallions, and a great number of corpses of people previously tortured, said General Major Igor Konashenkov.

Mines and traps were placed in a lot of places: floor, doors, walls, rooms and even streets, said the spokesman of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

'We found every sort of arsenals and solid proof of war crimes. Everything was carefully documented. We can show it to sponsors in London, Paris, Washington, on how they protected groups with such criminal behavior,' he said.

As the Russian President Vladimir Putin stated last Friday, Russia contributed to the achievement of a big humanitarian operation with the rescue of more than 100,000 civilians, retained as human shields, and the evacuation of approximately 36,000 armed people and their relatives, without fighting.

At the right moment, the Syrian representation to the United Nations revealed the names of the military experts from several western nations who were with the most radical armed people in Aleppo.
